M1GP Round 5 Weekend: RECAP

Written by  Y.Lee

July 10th & 11th @ Willow Springs Kart Track.

SATURDAY PRACTICE, 2 HOUR MOTO ENDURO & ROUND 5 FOLLOW-UP

Thanks to everyone who made JULY 10th & 11th a great weekend!

Saturday practice brought out some former CMRRA racers who haven't been out in a while: SKYE GIRARD & RICH JOHNSON.

The 2 HOUR MOTO ENDURO
- though short as far as M1GP endurance races go, it was HOT and full of some dramatic and FUN racing action. Gary Higgins with wife Sunny Higgins made up the winning Supermoto Team: "GAR-SUN" with Gary doing all the riding and Sunny being his crew chief, making this Gary's 1st IRONMAN race with M1GP.   Higgins is an M1GP 8 Hour Enduro veteran now, yet with the conditions we had with weather, this may have been one of the most grueling for higgins as it was 2 hours of non-stop racing.  Team "NOT-NOT-GOOD" (another 8H vet. team) took the win in the 50cc stock class with Jeremy Ayers and Rob Jacobs leading "MY NEW 2 DAD'S RACING" team made up of young racers Rayce Sabo and Gabriel Hernandez III in 2nd followed by "DWH Racing's" (yest another 8H vet. team) Beau Nilsson and Amir Haque in third.

Sunday's Round 5
had some very intense racing with 12 lap heats.
We had some breakthroughs for some racers setting some of the fastest laps we've seen in a while and some intense battles and great performances.

Thanks to Race Announcer Kiki Rodriguez for announcing the 2 Hour Moto Enduro.

Unfortunately Kiki called in sick and was unable to announce the great racing action of Round 5 as scheduled.  He had some fun riding an M1GP NSR50 on Saturday as well as announcing the 2HR but the heat proved his enemy for Sunday.
Beau Nilsson
stepped up and did an outstanding job filling in as race announcer between his races.  Thanks Beau!

Some performances of special note:
Gabriel Hernandez III for leading the 65GP race for so long with his NSF100.  Though he crashed out, it was an impressive performance against a field of formidable racers and some faster machines.

Isaias Contreras for winning his first race with M1GP in the Stock 50cc Novice Class.

M1GP is proud to have so many great racers and supporting families who make up our great community which is getting stronger and healthier.
